BlackBerry Z30 Review and Challenge http://www.daddoes.com/10248/blackberry-challenge-z30-vs-iphone5/ Today we have the results of a challenge. The folks at BlackBerry challenged us to swap out our iPhone 5 for a BlackBerry Z30 and record our experience for 7 days. We are always up for a good challenge and knew nothing about BlackBerry phones, so we gave it a shot.In truth, I was not expecting things to go well. I am a huge iPhone fan. I have had various iPhones for the last 5 years and really didn't think the BlackBerry Z30 had anything to offer me. Apparently I was wrong. As the video shows, there are plenty of cool features in BlackBerry OS 10 and the Z30.We loved the large and clear screen on the Z30. The battery on the Z30 runs laps around my iPhone. The whole BBM, message and notification center on BlackBerry really is a huge time saver. Sound quality is great, love the HDMI out and some cool features like NFC and Timeshift in photos. The real negative is simply the lack of apps. No Netflix. No Instagram. Lots of games that I had on my iPhone, not available in BlackBerry World. In the end, if you don't use a ton of apps, the BlackBerry Z30 is great and in many ways more enjoyable to use on a daily basis than the iPhone 5. Just having a battery that goes for days is a huge plus.If you do love apps and have lots of friends in the iOS world - you will have problems. No FaceTime, lots of missing apps.Head over to http://www.DadDoes.Com where we will have a full review of the BlackBerry Z30 and much more information on the BlackBerry Challenge. If you are interested in the Z30, here is some more info on the phone -SizeHeight 140.7 mm / 5.53 inWidth 72 mm / 2.83 inDepth 9.4 mm / 0.37 inWeight170g / 5.99 ozNavigationAll-touch screen, with intuitive gesture based navigationDedicated keysVolume Up/Down, Mute, Lock (for Power On/Off)KeyboardOn screen BlackBerry® Keyboard (portrait/landscape), featuring contextual auto-correction, next-word prediction and a personalized learning engine that gets to know the way you typeDisplayResolution1280 x 720 resolution, at 295 ppi24-bit color depthScreen size5 diagonal Super AMOLED16:9 aspect ratioOS & desktop softwareOperating systemBlackBerry® 10 OSDesktop softwareBlackBerry® Link software for your computer to enable synchronisation of data and mediaLearn more about BlackBerry LinkPerformanceProcessorDual Core 1.7 GHz Qualcomm MSM8960T ProMemory2GB RAM16GB FlashExpandable memoryRemovable microSD memory card—slot under back coverUSB PortsUSB 2.0 high speed port—allows charging and data synchronisation of the device with a USB cableHDMI PortMicro HDMI for connection to your HDTV or projectorPowerBattery2880mAH non-removable batteryBattery LifeUp to 25 hours mixed useUp to 18 hours talk time (UMTS)Up to 16 days standby timeCamera & videoRear camera8 megapixel auto-focus cameraBack Side Illumination for better low-light performance5-element F2.2 lensFlash, continuous and touch to focus, image stabilisationProprietary Enhanced Super Resolution Digital Zoom (5x)1080p HD video recordingTime Shift mode for pinpointing and adjusting individual elements of your pictureFront camera2 megapixel fixed-focus cameraImage and video stabilisation3x digital zoom720p HD video recordingBlackBerry® Balance™ technology offering dedicated profiles to keep work and personal data separate and secure Alerts & notificationsToneVibrateOn-screen or LED indicator(Notification options are user configurable)Voice input/outputDual integrated stereo speakersMultiple microphonesHands-free headset capableBluetooth® headset capableIntegrated hands-free speakerphoneNetwork & connectivityNetwork bandsQuad band LTE 3, 7, 20, 8 (1800/2600/900/800 MHz)Quad band HPSA/UMTS 1, 2, 5/6, 8 (800/850/900/1900/2100 MHz)Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE (850/900/1800/1900 MHz)Wi-Fi®802.11 a/b/g/n2.4 GHz / 5 GHz4G Mobile HotspotBluetooth®Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy (LE) with aptX™ enabledGPSAssisted, Autonomous and Simultaneous GPSPreloaded with BlackBerry® Maps application and enabled for e911 capabilitiesSupport for User Plane and Control Plane GPSGLONASS SupportNFCBlackBerry® Tag with NFC technology enables communication between BlackBerry smartphones and other NFC-enabled devices with a tapSensorsAdvanced SensorsAccelerometerMagnetometerProximity sensorGyroscopeAmbient light sensorAccessibilityBlackBerry® Screen Reader, for customers with vision lossBlackBerry® Magnify, for customers with partial visionFace-to-face video chat with BBM™ VideoVoice Control for sending messages, placing calls, search and moreAdjustable screen brightness, scalable fontsTeletypewriter (TTY) SupportCertain models rated for use with hearing aids
