Beim Brand in einem Club im Schweizer Ferienort Crans-Montana kam es in der Silvesternacht zu einer Katastrophe mit zahlreichen Toten und Verletzten. Innerhalb kürzester Zeit breitete sich das Feuer unkontrolliert aus. Brandschutzexperten gehen davon aus, dass ein sogenannter Flashover eine zentrale Rolle gespielt haben könnte. Dabei entwickelt sich ein Brand in geschlossenen Räumen schlagartig vom Entstehungsbrand zum Vollbrand: Innerhalb weniger Sekunden entzünden sich nahezu alle brennbaren Materialien gleichzeitig. In diesem Video rekonstruieren wir, was in Crans-Montana passiert sein könnte, und erklären anhand von Augenzeugenberichten, Experteninterviews und einer Feuerwehr-Demonstration, wie ein Flashover entsteht, und warum er so gefährlich ist. Dabei wird deutlich, wie Faktoren wie niedrige Decken, brennbare Materialien, Rauchentwicklung und eingeschränkte Fluchtwege zusammenwirken können. Das Video zeigt auch, warum Brände in Innenräumen besonders tückisch sind: Noch bevor Flammen den Raum vollständig erfassen, können Hitze, Rauch und giftige Gase lebensgefährlich werden.
